A portrait is not a pose. It is the moment you stop holding your breath and something of you comes through. That is what I look for as a portrait photographer in Nice and on the French Riviera: a picture that looks like you on a good day, and that you will still recognise in twenty years.
Who it is for
Anyone who wants a real portrait. For yourself, because it has been years since a photograph pleased you. For your work, because you need more than a headshot. For the people who love you. You do not need any experience in front of a camera; most of the people I photograph have none, and it shows in the best possible way: nothing is rehearsed.
How it goes
We talk first: the mood you have in mind, the place, what you will wear. On the day, we start slowly. A few frames to break the ice, a look at the back of the camera, and the shoulders drop. I take care of everything else: where your weight goes, where your hands rest, where your eyes land, and the light. There is no rush and no other session before or after yours. Somewhere along the way you forget the camera, and that is when I get the picture I came for. All that preparation does not lock anything in. If an idea comes to you during the session, say it. We look at each other, we say “Come on, let’s do it!”, and we try it right away. Some of my best photographs were made that way.
Practical details
- Duration — about 1.5 to 2 hours, including outfit changes and breaks.
- Location — natural light outdoors in Nice and on the French Riviera, a studio, or your home. I also travel elsewhere in France and abroad.
- Wardrobe — two or three outfits, chosen together before the session. Plain fabrics and textures photograph better than logos and patterns.
- Delivery — a few days later, a private online gallery to choose your favourites, then your retouched images in high resolution.
